U.S. Military uniforms feature the U.S. flag, which is worn on the upper right shoulder by U.S. Soldiers. Not all U.S. flag patches are reversed, but those worn on the right shoulder are.  The reason has a number of traditions behind it.  Some of these long-running traditions and regulations were created before the Civil War.
