For a number of years second amendment supporters in the great state of Wyoming, have been working on repealing “gun free zones”. A current bill would eliminate most “gun free zones” in the state of Wyoming in 2020. The bill is SF0088 and here are the vital sections:

(b)  Persons lawfully carrying concealed weapons in Wyoming under W.S. 6‑8‑104(a)(ii) through (iv) may carry a concealed weapon in the following places:

(i)  Any meeting of a governmental entity;

(ii)  Any meeting of the legislature or a committee thereof.

(c)  Persons lawfully carrying concealed weapons in Wyoming under W.S. 6‑8‑104(a)(ii) or (iii) may carry a concealed weapon in the following places:

(i)  Any public school, public college or university or professional athletic event, except as provided in W.S. 21‑3‑132;

(ii)  Any public elementary or secondary school facility, except as provided in W.S. 21‑3‑132;

(iii)  Any public college or university facility.

W.S. 21-3-132 prohibits firearms on K-12 school properties unless the school board has chosen to allow it.

SF0088 is sponsored by Senators Bouchard, Biteman, James and Steinmetz and Representative(s) Blackburn, Clem, Edwards, Gray, Jennings, Laursen, Piiparinen, Salazar, Styvar and Tass.

In 2019, the legislation was very popular. The Bill, Senate File 75, proposed much of the same legislation, however Senate File 75 was defeated in the committee in 2019, on a three to two vote. In 2019, Senators Reynolds John Kost (Republican, Disrict 19 ), Michael Von Flatern (Republican, District 24 ), and Lilsa Anselmi-Dalton (Democrat, District 12 ), were the three votes in the Judiciary Committee that defeated the bill back then. As usual, the argument was a fear mongering emotional over dramatization ignoring facts and reality.

Although the majority of Republican legislators are willing to support the repeal of “gun-free zones”, Republican leadership in the Senate is dedicated to squashing the new SF0088 bill in committee.

There has been a trend of many states in the union attempting to restore whole the right to bear arms. This process is slow and tedious. No one understands this more than Senator Anthony Bouchard who has been working diligently to restore Second Amendment rights in Wyoming for years now.  SF0088 is one of his chosen vehicles in 2020 on the road to restoring Wyomings 2A rights.

The state of Wyoming is a Constitutional Carry state. In spite of this, there is no gun violence problem. The streets are not covered in blood. In fact it is quite the opposite. As citizens right to bear arms is restored, we will see that the arguments of an “armed citizenry is dangerous” will turn out to be hyperbol . The elimination of “gun-free zones” in the state of Wyoming will set an example and precedence for the rest of the United States.
